The Engelstad Foundation invites mission-aligned organizations to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) as the first step in our grantmaking process. This brief form helps us learn more about your organization, your proposed initiative, and how it aligns with the foundation’s priorities. Submitting an LOI does not constitute a full grant application. Rather, it allows the foundation to assess potential fit and determine whether to invite a full proposal or further discussion. Selected LOIs will be invited to submit a full application.
If your project includes more than one organization as co-leads, please have one organization fill out the LOI on behalf of all the organizations. You can invite more than 1 person to fill out the LOI if you have multiple collaborators. If you have any questions regarding collaborative project proposals, please contact admin@engelstadfoundation.org.
We evaluate LOIs based on how well the project builds sector resilience through clear alignment with our goals, a focused strategy for collaboration or advocacy, and a budget scaled to the work. Strong applications provide data-driven evidence of need and define specific, measurable milestones for success.
We will have a webinar dedicated to answering questions about the LOI on February 12, 2026 at 2pm PT. The link to register for the webinar is here.
LOIs will close on February 27, 2026 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis during the application cycle. We strongly suggest you submit your LOI earlier so that you have sufficient time to complete your application if eligible. If you are selected to move on to the application stage, applications will close on March 6, 2026.
